Human Transcript Database Help

This page is designed to be used for basic or complex searches of the Baylor Human Transcript database.  To do a simple search simply select the field to be searched by using the pull-down list, enter a parameter in the box directly under the first field box and click the 'Submit' button at the bottom of the form. If you want to search multiple fields you may do so by selecting an item in the menu of the second and/or third field boxes and entering parameters for them as desired.  You may then combine the searches by selecting 'And' or see both searches by selecting 'Or'.  The third field box contains fields that you can set a range for such as transcript size and date of entry.   Transcript length should be entered in bases, confidence level as a number between 0-4, and date of submission as follows YYYY/MM/DD (e.g. for Dec 15, 1998 you would enter 1998/12/15). You may use the wildcard '*' for searching in the first or second fields.  You may place it before, after, and/ or in the middle of your search parameter.  In addition you can select to sort the results by one of several different fields.  Finally you can chose to search only the cDNA sequenced by Baylor by checking the box at the top of the form.

Example 1: to search for cDNA sequences submitted to GenBank by Gibbs
1) Select 'Author' from the first field.
2) Enter 'Gibbs' in the search parameter directly under the first field
3) Click the submit button

Example 2: to search for cDNA from brain tissue that is between 100 and 1,000 bases long sorted by size
1) Select 'Tissue Type' from the first field
2) Enter 'brain' in the search parameter directly under the first field
3) Select 'Transcript Length' from the third field
4) Enter '100' in the top box next to the third field
5) Enter '1000' in the bottom box next to the third field
6) Select the 'AND' button just above the third field
7) Select 'Transcript Length' from the sort by box
8) Click the submit button

Example 3: to select every cDNA sequence that has 'actin' in the keywords, in muscle tissue, submitted after 1 Aug 1998, and sorted by confidence
1) Select 'Keywords' in the first field.
2) Type '*actin*' in the search parameter directly under the first field.
3) Select 'Tissue Type' from the second field
4) Type '*muscle*' in the search parameter under the second field.
5) Select the 'AND' button just above the second field.
6) Select 'Date Submitted' from the third field.
7) Enter 1998/08/01 in the top box next to the third field.
8) Select the 'AND' button just above the third field.
9) Select 'Confidence Level' from the third field.
10) Click the submit button.
