HGSC Post-baccalaureate Opportunity

We provide post-baccalaureate opportunities for recent college graduates and HGSC research technicians who are interested in obtaining a Ph.D. or M.D/Ph.D. This program gives them an opportunity to continue their educational quest, gain research experience, and gain tools that will help them gain admission into graduate school. We offer two types of post-baccalaureate experiences: research post-baccalaureate (recent college graduates who are paid by this program); and HGSC post-baccalaureate (already employed by HGSC).

The HGSC-PGET provides:

  • Must be an HGSC employee to participate in this program
  • New college graduates – provided full yearly salary with benefits
  • Financial support for college courses to strengthen the student's background to gain graduate admission
  • Opportunity to take a graduate level course in Genomics (taught by leading researchers in the field of genomics)
  • GRE Preparation Course
  • Guidance and counseling from the program mentor
  • Monthly meeting with HGSC researchers, minority scientists from Texas Medical Center institutions, and minority scientists from private industry
  • Weekly meetings with peers to discuss career development topics
  • Two year program
