Baylor College of Medicine ranks first among Texas medical schools and
third among the state's universities in research and development funding.
Baylor's faculty instruct medical students and resident physicians in
21 medical specialties, and more than 500 students are enrolled in Ph.D.
programs, a combined M.D., Ph.D. program, and four allied health fields.
Baylor's research reputation has been enhanced by the addition of some
70 specialty research centers. The college has seven affiliated teaching
hospitals, which have approximately 5,000 beds, admit about 131,000 patients,
and record 1.9 million outpatient visits each year.
