System Administration Positions

 

Sr. Systems Administrator/Unix Administrator

   

We are currently seeking a Sr. Systems Administrator/Unix Administrator who will work as part of the systems administration group. This position will have the opportunity to work with state of the art systems for High Performance Computing. The primary responsibility of this position is Linux/UNIX systems administration.

Candidates should have a minimum of 6 years experience administering large scale Linux/Unix production environments. Extensive experience with Sun Solaris, Veritas file systems and volume manager, Veritas Netbackup, storage arrays, SAN environments, and network attached storage. Experience with Red Hat Linux is required with emphasis on cluster environments. Knowledge of cluster tools like Rocks, LSF, PBS, xCAT, kickstart, pxe boot, Globus, Grid Engine, ganglia, and other cluster tools is desired. Strong background with server builds, OS installation and configuration, patch management, package updates, and performance tuning. Experience with NFS, NIS, automounter, SSH, DNS, SMTP, sendmail configuration, Apache configuration, and Tomcat configuration.

Individuals should be demonstrate the ability to work in a complex operating environment to accomplish change while maintaining operations without disruption. Applicants should have experience working in a customer service environment with a proven track record of developing and implementing standards and procedures that facilitate operations, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, prioritize tasks, and to act as a team leader. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are also required.


 

Informatics Positions

 

Scientific Programmer

   

The Scientific Programmer position will be responsible for software development with application development experience.

Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. The preferred candidate would also be familiar with the concepts of molecular biology and genetic sequence analysis.

The Scientific Programmer position will perform feasibility studies, hardware/software evaluations, analysis of requirements, system design, programming, testing, implementation, problem solving, enhancements and required maintenance. Could be required to assume responsibility or be back up for the support and maintenance of an application system.

There will also be programmer opportunities that primarily involve developing and refining all aspects of a high-throughput genomic sequencing analysis pipeline. Successful applicants will need to be fluent in Perl and have experience with UNIX shell scripting. Familiarity with Python, Java, C++, and/or Make utilities is a plus.

In general, roles & responsibilities will include the following:

  • Prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written.
  • Designs, codes, tests, debugs, documents and maintains programs.
  • Designs and develops research software.
  • Configures and customizes third-party software.
  • Advises on hardware and software decisions.
  • Applies existing custom research software to both well-defined and complex problems.

Required skills & experience:

  • Work experience with most of these: Perl, Unix, Java, SQL, JSF, XML, HTML.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience with software revision control systems and testing frameworks.

Some positions may require:

  • Knowledge of and experience with Tomcat.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Subversion.
  • Knowledge of and experience with JUnit and Cruise Control.
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL.

 

Bioinformatics Programmer

   

Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Biology or a related field with practical experience developing database applications in Perl or Java. The preferred candidate would also be familiar with the concepts of molecular biology and genomic sequence analysis.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Design and develop programs for manipulation and reporting of biological data.
  • Work with scientists and technicians to identify needs and develop new applications to meet them.
  • Work with other developers to identify and resolve system performance issues.

Required skills and experience:

  • Work experience with Unix, Perl, Java, SQL, XML, Unix shell scripting.
  • Experience with software revision control systems.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Good communication skills.

Desired experience:

  • Experience developing programs for extraction, translation and loading of relational data.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Perl and UNIX shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Perforce.
  • Knowledge of software best practices including unit testing and continuous integration.
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL.

 

Laboratory Positions

 

Sr. Research Assistant

   

This position will be responsible for performing complex and advanced research work requiring high-level skills and expertise. Person will need to use own initiative and may be required to supervise others in planning and completing advanced research and R&D experiments in accordance with general directions given from the senior manager of HGSC operations.

Applicants should have experience in PCR, RtPCR, DNA Sequencing and DNA Sequencing instrumentation. Experience in micro array technology and bead separation technologies is also preferred. Trouble shooting and problem solving skills will also be required as well as data analysis for presentation. Candidates should be able to work well in a team environment.

Requirements:

  • Education: Master's degree in molecular biology
  • Experience: Two years of related experience

NOTE: A Bachelor's degree and two years of directly related experience is considered "equivalent" to a Master's degree.
