About the project

The HGSC has sequenced the genome of the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus).

The dolphin is one of 24 animals whose genome has been sequenced to 2x coverage as part of the comparative genomic effort.

DNA for the project was kindly provided by Dr. Debbie Duffield, Portland State University. The DNA was obtained from a healthy female dolphin at the US Navy Marine Mammal Program.

The comparative genomic sequencing effort is aimed at identifying functional elements that are conserved.

The project is funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI).

Access to the data

All sequence reads are deposited in the NCBI trace archive as they are produced. Assemblies of contigs and scaffolds, as well as BLAST access to the data will be made available here and at the relevant public databases as soon as they are produced.
