The recent advances and expansion of knowledge made in human genetics have been extraordinary. The human genome project, biotechnology, and other mammalian genome research all have such great potential to improve the quality of life. Knowing and understanding the complete human genome will help researchers locate and identify disease genes and will ultimately enable scientists to understand complex diseases such as heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer. This is a very exciting time in science and medicine. As we enter the 21st Century, The Baylor College of Medicine Human Genome Sequencing Center is proud to play a significant role in this research.
