About the Project

The HGSC is sequencing the genome of the dwarf honey bee, Apis florea. This primitively social bee has simple hives and a simplified waggle dance. This sequencing along with the bumble bee is part of the Honey bee genome refinement project and funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute.

A preliminary draft whole genome shotgun assembly is available. The assembly used the data from 20 fold genome sequence coverage in 454 fragment technology and 2.8 fold sequence coverage in 8kb 454 paired end libraries.

Genome Assembly

The long term home of the A. florea genome is Beebase.

A.flo1.0 is now available in GenBank and on our FTP site. The files can be downloaded as linearized scaffolds and as contig files. Use the FTP Data link in the sidebar.

The 454 sequence reads are available from the NCBI Sequence Read Archive.

Blast Data

Blast data will be posted when it becomes available and will include:

  • Linearized chromosome and unplaced scaffold sequences
  • Assembled contigs
  • Bin0 unassembled reads and Repeat reads
